Measurement of Pulsating Flow Using a Self-Attachable Flexible Strain Sensor Based on Adhesive PDMS and CNT

Accurate monitoring is needed for pulsating flow in many healthcare and bio applications. Specifically, real-time of blood provides rich information regarding a patient’s health conditions. This paper proposes flexible strain sensor capable detecting the fluid by directly measuring circumferential induced rapid change rate. The thin consists polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with Triton-X treatment to enhance adhesive property multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) as piezoresistive sensing layer. MWCNT integration implements simple spray-coating method. PDMS/CNT exhibits highly nature can be attached silicone tube’s curved surface. By analyzing theoretical modeling based on energy equation solid mechanics, strains soft tube rate, viscosity, density predicted. We performed rate measurement at varying fluid-flow rates liquid viscosities, results match our prediction. sensitivity limit detection presented are about 0.55 %min/L 0.4 L/min, respectively. Both calculation experiment confirm that resistance most sensitive thus, enabling accurate tracking fluids’ regardless viscosity or density.
